Duror and Kentallen Womens Group
The Duror & Kentallen Womens Group (DAKW) has been running since early 2008. Members of this informal and friendly grouping propose their own calendar of short, fun and mainly free events which cater for ladies from 15 to 70 whatever their fitness level.
The broad appeal means that the network has also proved a perfect forum for community members new and old to meet people and a chance to strengthen friendships and exchange experiences within the immediate local area.
Events range from casual gatherings at members' houses to climbing Ben Nevis. Along the way we’ve sampled badminton and cycling as well as any number of gentle outings, which usually see us sampling a coffee shop.
Currently DAKW has over thirty members and holds one to two events a month as well as the twice yearly get together where all members bring forward their ideas.
Short Mat Indoor Bowling Club
The club was started up in January 2004 with financial help from the local community council, the local church and the community centre. Its aim is to promote and encourage the game of bowls and social participation. Membership is open to all ages and abilities. New players are welcome at all times. There is no membership fee - pay and play only. There are 3 mats and bowls of varying sizes to suit all.
Since 2004 the club has gone from strength to strength with approximately 30 people playing on a regular basis. At the end of the playing year, usually around early April, the members have a fun day out and play on the full size rinks at the Dewar Centre in Perth. The day is rounded off with a meal in a local restaurant.
The bowling season is every Thursday evening, 7.30pm – 9.30pm, from early October until April with a break for Christmas / New Year.
1. Pay on arrival. (Currently £1 per 2 hour session)
2. Play and teams determined by selection of coloured disc.
3. Flat shoes (ie without heels) to be worn at all times
4. Refreshments at half time
5. Have fun & enjoy yourselves!
6. Hall and equipment to be treated with respect at all times.
Provisional dates for 2009 / 2010 season:
8th October - resume after summer break
17th December to 7th January - Christmas / New Year break
8th April - end of season
28th March - day out to Perth
Scottish Country Dancing Group
An informal group meets in the Duror & Kentallen Community Centre every fortnight during the winter for an evening of Scottish Country Dancing. We normally meet on alternate Fridays from 7.00 pm to 10.00 pm.
Neither experience nor expertise are needed. We have a (very patient) experienced teacher who has already introduced us to a range of simple and entertaining dances.
For further information, or if you feel that you’d like to join us and give it a go, please contact Beth or John Connolly on 01631 740248.
Village Lunch
In 1990/91 the Duror church undertook a Parish review and one of the findings was that people wanted somewhere to meet that was warm and friendly and they could have a chat. And so the Soup Lunch was started by Mrs Billy Cameron.
The church is lucky to have a bequest which is used to fund the lunches, ie hire of hall, heating and the food .
We have now got a group of about 20 helpers who make the soup and fill the rolls on a rota basis. Volunteers come from all over the village and not just from the church. All newcomers are always welcomed.
At Christmas we also do a Village Christmas Lunch. Again this is produced by the small army of volunteers. Some cook the turkeys, some do the veg some do roast potatoes and then there are the puddings with usually about 6 or 7 to choose from.
We ask for a donation of about £2 for the Village lunch and £5 for the christmas lunch. It was felt if it was free people would look on it as "Charity".
Art Club
Between October and March the Art Club meets every Wednesday between 10 and 12 in the Community Centre. This is an informal group of local enthusiasts, open to all.
Just bring your own materials and enjoy painting and drawing with others.
Each session costs £2 (to cover hire of hall), including refreshments.

Choir Group
The community choir aims to put on two or three performances a year and are starting to develop a more secular repertoire.
All are welcome – there are no auditions and you don’t need to be able to read music. Contact the choir master, Mr. Terry Goodwin (01855 811 104) or the administrator, Liz Bruce (01631 730 652) for dates of the next performances.
The cost is £5 per year.
Mother & Toddler Group
There is a Mother & Toddler Group at the community centre on a Thursday morning from 10.30am-11.30am during term time only. This is an opportunity for the toddlers to interact with the pre-school children and to help prepare them for joining pre-school. Its also an opportunity for the parents to come along to have a chat and a cuppa while their children explore the safe surroundings in the hall. All welcome.
