Petition to Fix Highland Roads
Here's what Andrew has to say:
Earlier this month Highland councillors debated our crumbling road network.
We now know there is a £233 million repair backlog across the Highlands. Yet only around £22.5 million per year is being allocated.
In Lochaber alone, the backlog stands at £12.5 million — but only £2.1 million is being allocated next year. Caithness motorists dodge potholed roads that require £13.4 million to repair yet the Council has allocated just £3.3 million for next year.
When I called for the Council to formally lobby the Scottish Government for more funding, SNP and Green councillors voted against it.
We were told there was “no point”.
Meanwhile, many areas across the Highlands still don’t even know the true scale of their backlog. Council officers have not released full figures.
That’s not transparency. And it’s not good enough.
So I’m launching the Fix Our Highland Roads petition calling on the Transport Secretary to work with Highland Council on a proper funding plan.
If the SNP-led Council won’t fight — the people of the Highlands will.
Please sign the petition today.
