EZO begins rollout of new EV charging network across the north of Scotland
Over the next three months, 177 chargers in the Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire, Highland and Moray council areas will be migrated from ChargePlace Scotland as part of the transition process.
This marks the start of a 20-year contract which will see 570 new charging points installed across the region by 2028 – more than doubling the existing EV infrastructure.
The aim is to increase access to EV charging, improve the service and bring a consistent tariff structure across all four local authorities.
What do drivers need to do?
Drivers using ChargePlace Scotland chargers in the four council areas now need to download the EZO app to access the network.
The app is free, easy to use and displays real-time charger availability with simple payment options and access to a wide network of roaming partners.
- The app can be downloaded here (App Store: https://apps.apple.com/app/id1612636962 or Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=uk.easygo.app&pli=1)
- More information and a step-by-step guide to using the chargers is available at www.ezo.co.uk
EZO also uses RFID fobs to make starting a charge quick and easy without using the app or requiring an internet connection.
The fobs usually cost £6, but EZO is giving them away free to the first 1,000 customers who create an EZO account.
How will we communicate the changes?
Migration is being phased and can vary by location. Some chargers have already been migrated over to EZO, while others will happen in early 2026.
Timings may change due to operational constraints, so residents should check EZO’s live migration page: https://scotlandchargers.ezo.co.uk/ezo-scotland-phase-1-charger-migration
Migrated chargers appear in green on the map, which is updated weekly. This is also available within the EZO app.
Who are EZO?
EZO operates Ireland’s largest privately owned EV charging network. Its 5,900 chargers across more than 2,100 locations serve more than 110,000 drivers.
The company (formerly known as EasyGo) was founded in 2018. In 2025, the company doubled in size, growing its headcount from 35 to more than 70 staff.
You’ll start to see EZO chargers appearing in more locations across Scotland in the months ahead, with many more to follow as the rollout continues.
