Highland Council Briefing 16th October 2026
What's in the briefing?
You can read the briefing in full by clicking the Find Out More link below, but here's a quick snapshot of what's included.
Funding
A major focus of this briefing is on upcoming funding opportunities and community support. The Highland Council is currently encouraging applications for the third round of its Reuse and Repair Fund, while a new digital platform called BeConnected is being piloted to help community organisations easily access funding, in-kind support, and collaboration opportunities. Additionally, the Scottish Government and various partners are offering targeted assistance, including the Childcare Support Fund to help families navigate financial pressures and childcare costs.
Consultations
There are also plenty of ways for local residents to get directly involved in shaping the future of the Highlands. The Scottish Government is running a review of Local Place Plans alongside a series of online workshops, and the Highland Council has launched a "Call for Ideas" survey for the new Highland Local Development Plan, giving residents a chance to share how local land and buildings can be better protected or developed. Furthermore, SSEN Transmission is consulting on new community benefit funds and recruiting local residents to join decision-making forums for the West and Mid Highland region.
Training and Other Initiatives
Finally, the briefing highlights a wide range of free local training courses, safety advice, and health initiatives. This includes upcoming sessions on mental health first aid, child protection training, and practical energy-saving advice from Home Energy Scotland to help households stay warm and manage rising bills. Residents are also encouraged to explore the Highland Council's new online engagement portal, Engage Highland, to stay updated on local consultations, events, and community activities.
