Have your say on giving your Community Council the same powers and budgets as English parish councils
There is a substantial difference in the powers and budgets of community councils in Scotland, and their English counterparts, parish councils. Here are some of the key differences:
- Parish councils are able to use a portion of council tax to fund local services, whereas community councils rely on grants.
- Parish councils are able to borrow money, employ staff, and own substantial assets, whereas community councils may not.
- Neighbourhood Plans created by parish councils have legal weight in planning decisions. The local place plan we created is a consultative document only.
