Scotways was founded in 1845, and is the world’s oldest outdoor access organization. Its key activities include:

  • Signposting & Maintenance across thousands of paths and rural routes in Scotland.
  • Route Database maintenance of known rights of way and public paths.
  • Heritage Paths Project dedicated to researching and rediscovering Scotland’s ancient and historical paths (like old Roman roads and Pilgrim paths).
  • Expert Legal Advice & Records for land developers, consultants, and solicitors.
  • Education through the publishing of  essential guides (such as Scottish Hill Tracks) to help the public responsibly navigate and understand the countryside.
