Update to A828 Ledaig Rockslope stabilization works
Works have progressed well during the first week of planned night-time operations, with two
of the larger rock blocks successfully removed from the slope. These activities have
represented a significant step forward in improving the safety of this section of the A828 Trunk
Road.
There are currently three smaller areas of rock remaining to be removed. However, following
the identification of bird nesting activity within the works area, a period of environmental
monitoring is now required to ensure compliance with the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.
Nesting continues on the slope, with the situation being closely monitored by our
environmental team.
As a result, works have currently reverted to daytime operations while this monitoring is
undertaken. During this period, activities will continue on sections of the slope at a suitable
distance from the identified nesting area.
Subject to the outcome of the ongoing environmental monitoring, there may be a requirement
for additional night-time working next week to complete the remaining rock removal
operations. A further update will be issued to stakeholders once more information is available
and working arrangements are confirmed.
Temporary traffic management will remain in place as required to ensure the safety of the
workforce and road users, and emergency access will be maintained at all times.
BEAR Scotland and Transport Scotland would like to thank stakeholders for their continued
cooperation and support while these essential safety improvements are delivered on this key
route.
